Note from Nikki Davies (CEO Meeting Place)
The Church Commissioners for England, in partnership with Legal & General and Gisborne, submitted a planning application to transform the disused Bushfield Camp into a 44-hectare, employment-led knowledge and innovation hub in November 2023. We engaged closely with stakeholders and the local community to better understand their aspirations surrounding the redevelopment of Bushfield Camp. We received a diverse range of constructive comments, throughout our pre-application consultation process and through Winchester City Council’s statutory consultation process on the outline planning application, that will help shape the future vision for the site. A recurring theme throughout these consultations was the desire for residents to understand more about the future of the significant amount of green space which will be provided (over 60 acres) and its potential uses and management. Central to our plans for Bushfield’s redevelopment is our ambition to maximise this land as a lasting legacy for the people of Winchester. As we approach the next stage of our application process, the Commissioners wish to engage with Winchester and the wider District’s community on the nature and the use of this legacy land. As a result, we have launched a new survey to help inform the future of this space, the decisions moving forward and creating an appropriate structure for managing the land, subject to planning permission being granted. The survey is now live and can be completed here. The responses collected from the survey will help us to better understand how the legacy land can be utilised for the benefit of Winchester’s residents and wildlife alike. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to fill out our survey and please do feel free to share this link across your wider network.
