 For those wishing to donate items to the collection for Ukrainian refugees in Poland being coordinated by the Southampton Polish Club, there will be a local collection point in the Hursley Parish Hall on Saturday 5th March between 10 and 12.
The appeal is asking specifically for donations of the following: - Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste/brushes - Bandages / plasters - Baby food (jars, sachets with long date) - Nappies / Wet wipes - Feminine sanitary products - Food (non-perishable or long life) - Blankets - Towels - Sleeping bags - Thermal blankets - Thermal underwear - Warm hats - Chemical heaters (guessing all the small camping stuff to keep individuals warm without needing electricity / external power source) - Portable power generators / stations - Outdoor LED lighting - Camp beds - Tent heaters At the moment they are not asking for clothes but this may change later. If you have any spare cardboard boxes, could you please bring them along to the hall with donations? To qualify, a person must be a British/Commonwealth/EU citizen, aged 18 years and an elector; must reside in, or within 3 miles of, the Otterbourne Parish boundary or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there; and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor. WHAT THE PARISH COUNCIL DOES The Parish Council is responsible for spending £40,000 of your Council Tax each year. It influences and makes decisions about many aspects of village life including: Play Areas, Recreation Grounds, Open Spaces and the Common, Footpaths and Pavements, Street Lighting, Bus Shelters, Conservation, Strategic Planning and Local Applications, Aircraft Noise and many other matters. WORKING AS A COUNILLOR There are seven Council Meetings per year, each lasting for 2 - 2½ hours which are always on the third Tuesday evening of the month. In addition, there is either a Committee Meeting or Working Party in those months when there is no full Council meeting. Update M3 between junctions 9 and 14. Last month the Government published its response to the Transport Select Committee’s inquiry into the roll out and safety of smart motorways. That response included a commitment to pause the rollout of future all lane running (ALR) smart motorway schemes until a full five years’ worth of safety and economic data is available from upgrades delivered before 2020. The M3 junctions 9 to 14 upgrade is one of the schemes being paused. During the pause, we will continue to make sure all existing ALR smart motorways are equipped with best-in-class technology and resources and are as safe as they can possibly be. In terms of the junction 9-14 stretch of the M3, we intend to upgrade the existing central reservation barrier from steel to concrete, which will deliver safety benefits. This is the only work we’ll be doing as the rest of the upgrade is subject to the pause. Last year we started early preparatory work on the junction 9-14 stretch and that work is still needed before we can start on just the barrier upgrade. So, from 7 February we’ll be resuming the preparation work, which’ll involve minor verge, drainage, and cabling work. These activities are all essential because traffic will be using the existing hard shoulder while we work in the central reservation.
