I am writing to you today to let you know that following discussions with NHS England (NHSE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) the Hampshire Together: Modernising our Hospitals and Health Services programme has scheduled its planned public consultation for the summer.
The programme remains part of the government’s Health Infrastructure Plan (HIP), which will result in a new hospital for Hampshire – with construction still on course to start in 2024. We were ready to consult with the public in January as per our original plan, but following discussions with our national partners we have collectively taken the decision to move it to the summer. This will enable us to undertake further work so we can put forward the best case to get the very most for everyone across the area. Holding our consultation in the summer also brings us into line with the wider national process and will add additional rigour to our assurance process. It also reduces the demands on NHS staff facing the continued pressures of COVID-19, winter and the vaccination programme, which can only be a positive thing. Hampshire Together is recognised for being one of the more advanced programmes within the second phase of the HIP programme and work will continue at pace. This will include additional engagement work with staff, patients and the general public as well as on the clinical model and services. I’d like to say a huge thank you for all of the effort you have put in over the last few months to help us get the programme ready for consultation. The work carried out so far will be invaluable when we do come to consult with, patients, staff and the public in the summer. If you should have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
